Evening

waves
the sound -- only faint crashes against my ear
the low steady rush of a thousand million miles of water
coming to rest on our sandy steps
forward, momentum, babbling bubbles
wash and receed
and kiss my feet

clouds
blue grey billows that cascade across the sky
flowing, changing, resting and reshaping
forever in a blessed cycle of freezing, motion, falling
as liquid life
they slowly churn across my sky
with hints of pink and golden crowning their unseen
kingdoms of imagined splendor
changing every hour

the sun
stretches tired across the sky
muted gold and dusty pink
melting and falling over everything it sees
colors, constantly changing as it leaks and streams through
the holes in the dark blue blanket
that covers this ocean

I watch
the sky being painted
a new color every second
and slowly growing darker
the ocean says goodnight
